Latex Rubber - Polytek Naturform for Stone Veneer, Statue, and Mask Making Molds

Latex rubber is a natural product extracted from the Hevea Brasiliensis tree. After processing, it offers high elongation and tear strength properties that can be used for a wide range of industrial & commercial applications, including stone veneer manufacturing, statuary reproduction, mask making, special effects, and much more.

Every Polytek® latex formulation is designed with a specific mold making or casting application in mind; properties like solid content, viscosity, release qualities and color vary to provide the best results for the end user.

Latex Rubbers for Mold Making, Naturform:

Latex Mold Rubbers are most often used to make molds for casting concrete (e.g., veneer stone manufacturing and statuary), plaster and limited casting with some resins. Naturform latex products offer excellent tear strength and elongation properties and are available in 58-62% solid content and 70-74% solid content options. latex mold rubber for concrete

Latex Rubber for Mask Making:

Mask Making Latex Rubber is designed to be poured into a dry, unsealed Gypsum plaster mold and air dries to form a high-strength, flexible casting. Natural latex rubber is one of the most popular materials for making novelty Halloween masks, prosthetic appliances, haunted attraction props, and animatronic skins. Unlike some other casting materials, these formulations can be used to create hollow castings without rotational molding.  latex rubber to make mask

Natural latex rubbers are one-part compounds used to make thin, strong molds and castings.

The NaturForm™ Series offers high-performing, natural molding latex rubbers that are most often used to make molds for casting plaster, concrete (e.g., veneer stone manufacturing and statuary) and limited casting with some resins. NaturForm™ products offer excellent tear strength and elongation properties and are available in 58-62% solid content options and a high solids option (70-74%). NaturForm™ 60-R and NaturForm™ 74-R have internal release agents that assist in the release of casting materials, like concrete.   Pol-Ease 2750 Latex Release Agent (sold here) is designed specifically for use when casting concrete into latex rubber molds.

Latex Rubber - Polytek Naturform for Stone Veneer, Statue, and Mask Making Molds

Polytek® NaturForm™ 60 Molding Latex Rubber is a 58-62% solids natural latex with excellent tear strength and elongation properties. To make a mold, multiple layers of this latex are brushed (spray application is not recommended) onto an original model to form a tough rubber blanket mold (each layer must dry before the next layer is applied). These thin molds are typically backed with a supportive mold shell.

Molds made with natural latex are often used for casting plaster, concrete (e.g., veneer stone manufacturing and statuary) and limited casting with some resins.

For a latex with internal mold release, select NaturForm™ 60-R Molding Latex Rubber. For a high solids (70-74%) option, select NaturForm™ 74 Molding Latex Rubber.

NaturForm™ 60-R Molding Latex Rubber

Polytek® NaturForm™ 60-R Molding Latex Rubber is a blue, 58-62% solids natural latex with internal mold release that assists in releasing concrete and other materials from the finished latex mold. This rubber has excellent tear strength and elongation properties and can be brushed or sprayed with suitable equipment. After multiple coats, it builds up to form a tough rubber blanket mold that should be backed with a supportive mold shell.

Molds made with natural latex are often used for casting plaster, concrete (e.g., veneer stone manufacturing and statuary) and limited casting with some resins.

NaturForm™ 74 Molding Latex Rubber

Polytek® NaturForm™ 74 Molding Latex Rubber is a high solids (70-74%) natural latex with excellent tear strength and elongation properties.

For a latex with lower solid content (58-62%), select NaturForm™ 60-R Molding Latex Rubber (with internal mold release) or NaturForm™ 60 Molding Latex Rubber.

NaturForm™ 74-R Molding Latex Rubber

Polytek® NaturForm™ 74-R Molding Latex Rubber is a high solids (70-74%) natural latex with internal mold release that assists in releasing concrete and other materials from the finished latex mold. To make a mold, multiple layers of this latex are brushed (spray application is not recommended) onto an original model to form a tough rubber blanket mold; each layer must dry before the next layer is applied. These thin latex molds are typically backed with a supportive mold shell.

Molds made with natural latex have excellent tear strength and elongation properties and are often used for casting plaster, concrete (e.g., veneer stone manufacturing and statuary) and limited casting with some resins.

Additional Latex Options: For a high solids latex without internal mold release, select NaturForm™ 74 Molding Latex Rubber. For a latex with lower solid content (58-62%), select NaturForm™ 60-R Molding Latex Rubber (with internal mold release) or NaturForm™ 60 Molding Latex Rubber.

NaturForm™ 30 Mask Making Latex Rubber

NaturForm™ 30 Mask Making Latex Rubber is a one-part, pourable casting latex that can be used to make masks (Halloween, Special FX, Cosplay), props and animatronic skins. This natural latex is designed to be poured into a dry, unsealed Gypsum mold and air dries to form a high-strength, flexible casting.

BASIC INSTRUCTION: Stir before use. Pour into a dry, unsealed gypsum mold. Tilting or lightly vibrating the mold may help to eliminate bubbles if the mold contains complex undercuts or deep details. For a very thin skin, pour the excess latex back into the container immediately or within a couple of minutes. For a thicker skin, allow the product to stay in the mold longer before pouring off excess. As an example, a standing time (or dwell time) of 30 minutes yields a ~1/16-inch thickness. Dense plasters are not as absorbent and, therefore, cause thicknesses to build more slowly. Humidity and ambient temperature will also affect the drying time of latex. Allow NaturForm 30 to dry in the mold for 24 hours at room temperature.
