LIVING EARTH™ WATER-BASED STAINS
Living Earth™ Water-Based Stain is a safe, zero VOC, UV stable, water-based penetrating concrete stain. Boring, lifeless concrete can be transformed into a multi-colored, antiqued, variegated surface. Typical applications for Living Earth™ are cement-based floors, walls, ceilings, countertops, wall panels, and other architectural elements such as bare concrete, in both residential and commercial settings. When combining the 15 colors with varying dilution rates, a nearly limitless palate may be created.
- Virtually Endless Colors
- East to Apply and Maintain
- Fast Turn-Around
- Cost Efficient
Packaging: 1-gallon (4oz sample bottles sold here)
Coverage: 200-300 square feet per gallon. (Note: colors from the color chart are achieved with 2-3 coats of stain. Very porous/open concrete may require more coats to achieve the depicted color)
The colors produced using Living Earth™ Water-Based Stain will rely heavily on skill, practice and experimentation. Each concrete slab will react differently. Application methods and age and porosity of the concrete will result in different tones or hues and, in the case of very old or porous concrete, the stain may have little or no reaction.
Test sections should be done to verify suitability and appearance prior to application. When using multiple bottles of stain of the same color, batch (mix) bottles of stain together.
Living Earth Primer (available at the bottom of the drop down menu when ordering) is a product that can be used on cement surfaces that are overly porous (broom finished concrete, concrete not steel troweled, etc.) or old and worn surfaces, and would otherwise not show much or any color from the stain. Primer covers 200-300 sq. ft. per gallon. Primer Instruction Data Sheet (TDS) download here.
Very smooth (steel troweled, precast concrete, etc.) concrete may not allow the stain to penetrate well and you may need to lightly hone the surface prior to staining (shot-blasting, sanding @200 grit, or a surface prep wash using SCR (sold here)
Application instructions: please see the TDS sheet below.
I purchased three different colors for a coffee explosion look. Buffalo, Tawny, and buckskin. The finished product looks great. The help that I received over the phone was excellent. I have no regrets. I would recommend a video showing a few different techniques for the more artistic applications utilizing multiple colors.
I’m putting this stain in our Living-Dining room of a passive-active solar home. Looking for a dark color for better solar gain which would look like a light slate with a slight blue hue. The floor is a concrete fiber reinforced slab about 8 inches thick with insulation below it to act as a heat sink for the solar gain and works wonderfully to moderate the temperature of our near net-0 energy efficient home. To attain the color we want, but still see the natural characteristics and texture of the concrete we used the 4 oz. bottles in a section under the stairway out of view and found the ratio of 2 parts Azure Blue to 1 part Gunmetal gave the look we want. Note the Gunmetal has a slight opacity but is a much more prominent color than the Azure Blue and this significantly darkens with the sealer to give the look we want. It is also great that this is water based without the VOCs and with SuperSeal 20WB it makes a great environmentally safe combination. Placed the order today to complete the job.
